GreenWorks 25052 review
I wanted a push reel lawn mower since I was tired of breakdowns and all the costly repairs on my old gas powered mower. After a thorough research I finally went for the GreenWorks 25052 since it had an alright cutting width of 16 inches and a neat grass catcher. If you have a large lawn I would recommend you to get a mower with a wider cutting width, but if you have a small or medium sized yard this mower with do just fine.
Another reason I wanted a reel lawn mower was due to the hassle with getting and storing gas. I could of course have bought an electric mower, but I figured I need some extra exercise after gaining a few pounds during the winter. A push reel lawn mower can also last for decades with minimal maintenance. Just sharpen the blades and give it some lubricant and it will be happy.
I ordered my lawn mower online since I got the best price and free shipping. A couple of days later it arrived at my door neatly packed. The assembly needed was minimal, but you need to have a wrench to fasten some nuts on the handle.
The handle is great and allows you to hold both horizontally and vertically on the soft rubber grip.
The GreenWorks 25052 has two large 10 inch wheels which ensure a smooth ride even over my bumpy lawn. I have also no problems maneuvering around obstacles. My lawn is on a hillside which makes it a bit tiring to push the mower uphill, but I had the same problem with my gas powered mower which was not self-propelled.
The 16” reel has 5 helical blades which do a great job cutting the grass, but you will struggle if you let the grass grow too tall. During the summer I cut my lawn about once a week which avoids the grass to become too tall. When I cut my lawn each week it is not really any harder to push my new GreenWorks than my old gas lawn mower.
The only difference with my new reel lawn mower is that I use slightly longer time mowing my lawn than with the old gas mower. I believe this is mainly due to the narrower cutting width.
You can also adjust the cutting height from 1.125” to 2.25” by three different positions. It is quite easy to change the cutting height, but I have left it in the middle position since I got it.
One of the reasons I bought this GreenWorks 25052 was due to the grass catcher. What a disappointment the grass catcher was, it does a bad job catching the grass clippings and it keeps falling off all the time. I have now ended up not using the catcher at all and it put in the shed for the unforeseen future.
- Easy to push and has an even cut.
- Minimal maintenance.
- Grass catcher doesn’t work very well.
