Worx WG782 review
The Worx WG782 is a small cordless lawn mower which almost looks like a toy. The fact that it is mainly made of plastic doesn’t make it look any less like a toy. Don’t get fooled by the looks, the plastic is sturdy and overall quality of the mower feels good.
I like that the Worx WG782 is so maneuverable and light. I can easily push the mower up the steeper parts of my yard without breaking a sweat. I wish the wheels were a bit larger which would have made it even easier to push and maneuver.
Another thing that I like is that the handle can be easily adjusted to fit both my wife and me without any tools. You can also fold the handle over the top of the mower so it takes up minimal storage space in your garage or shed. The handlebars are also very comfortable with a soft grip. The mower has also a safety key to prevent kids (and grownups) accidently starting it and get hurt.
Due to the narrow cutting width of only 14 inches I would say that the Worx WG782 is only suitable for small to moderate sized gardens. Even though you can cut up to 10,000 square feet on a single charge this would be too time consuming. If you have a large lawn I recommend you to buy a lawn mower with a wider cutting width. You want spend time enjoying your garden, not mowing the lawn.
The 24 volt battery pack sits in the back of the deck and is removable. This allows you to recharge or store the battery where you please. Recharging the batteries takes about 4 to 5 hours and a fully charged battery will allow you to mow for about 40 minutes. If this is not sufficient you can buy replacement batteries for around $85.
It is recommended to charge the battery after use, and recharge the battery every second month during the winter/ when it is not in use.
WG782 vs WG775
There is not much difference between the Worx WG782 and the WG775. They are basically the same lawn mower, but the WG782 has something called IntelliCut (explained below). This function gives the WG782 a slightly better battery capacity (40 minutes vs 30 minutes) for just a few more dollars.
|Worx WG782||Worx WG775|
|Power source||24 V battery||24 V battery|
|Cutting swath||14 inches||14 inches|
|Battery capacity||40 minutes run time, Cuts up to 10,000 sq. ft.||30 minutes run time, Cuts up to 6,000 sq. ft.|
|Weight||About 33 pounds||About 33 pounds|
What Worx calls IntelliCut is really two modes, normal and additional power mode. The additional power mode is design to handle taller and thicker grass better. Does it work? I am not sure how well it works to be honest. The mower might get slightly more power or torque during this mode, but it is not very noticeable. You need to switch between the modes manually with the dial on top of the mower which have made me stop fiddling with it and I now have it set on power permanently. The mower is still fairly quiet on power mode and I believe it doesn’t decrease the battery life that much either.
The Worx WG782 is able to cut grass with moderate length without problems. But if you have an over-grown yard with plenty of weeds this is probably not the best tool for you. Do you mow your lawn regularly, maybe once a week, this lawn mower will do a great job.
Adjusting cutting height
The cutting height can be adjusted from 1.8” to 3.3” by the lever on the left hand side. The operation of the lever is not smooth and a bit awkward. I personally don’t fiddle with the cutting height at all. I set it to one of the middle settings when it was new and have left it there since. If you like to adjust the cutting height several times during mowing your lawn, you might get annoyed with it after a while.
The Worx WG782 allows you to choose to mulch, side discharge or bag the clippings. I have mainly used the bag and mulching function so I can’t say much about side discharging.
The rear bag is easily fitted and removed from the mower. The plastic frame and handle makes it easy to carry the bag and emptying it. You should note that the bag is small, just like the rest of the mower.
The Worx WG782 is fitted with a special mulching blade that chops up the cuttings better than normal blades. This actually works great, the clippings are finely cut and easily disappears into the lawn.
- Easy to start.
- No need to drag an electrical cord behind you or regular maintenance.
- The special mulching cutting blade.
- Hassle to adjust cutting height.
- A bit too small wheels.
