Greenworks 25302 G-MAX review
The Greenworks 25302 G-MAX Twin Force Mower is definitely able to get the job done. This battery powered mower is best suited for those who have a small to medium sized area they need to maintain. One of the main things I liked about this mower is the fact that it doesn’t use gas, which is both a convenience and a plus when you consider just how energy-efficient it is.
The handle bar is very comfortable and didn’t give me any annoying blisters after using it for a while. The handle bar cannot be adjusted for different heights, but can be easily folded over itself to limit the storage space needed.
The only assembly which is required for this mower involves the handles and charging the batteries; everything else is already done. You will be ready to go as soon as the batteries are topped up.
There is a 20-inch composite mowing deck, making it both durable and extremely light. There is really nothing flimsy or cheap about this mower at all. I have had mowers in the past that were made out of cheaper materials and they didn’t last very long, so I expect this one will hold out for a while.
This mower has 10” wheels in the rear and 8” wheels in the front, which makes it easy to maneuver when cutting the lawn. Another thing I liked about the G-MAX is that it is very easy to get into tight spaces which would be otherwise unreachable with a larger mower.
Another factor that makes the lawn mower very easy to handle and push around is that it only weighs 42.5 pounds.
Dual batteries and motor design
The dual battery design that this mower uses makes it incredibly energy efficient. The 40-volt high-capacity 4 Ah and low capacity 2 Ah Li-Ion batteries are capable of keeping the mower running for up to 70 minutes.
I was able to mow ¼ of an acre on a single charge (4 Ah battery) without any problems, which is something that cannot be said for a lot of other battery powered mowers. With the 2 Ah battery I managed to mow a smaller part of my neighbor’s lawn, which is roughly about 60ft by 75ft (1/10 acre) and I used ¾ of the battery charge. The grass was dry and at a reasonable length.
Note that you can use the Greenworks 25302 with only one battery which allows you to recharge the other one while you cut the grass. It takes about 2 hours to fully charge the larger battery and only 1 hour for the smaller one. If you invest in an additional 4 Ah battery you can of course use two 4Ah batteries at once for more power. The runtime will with two 4 Ah batteries will be upto 90 minutes.
The two motors in this mower each operate the 10-inch blades which are more than adequate when it comes to slicing up grass. One of the issues I had with this mower is that it started to slow down a bit once I got to the really grassy areas of my lawn, but otherwise it is very efficient and capable of handling most areas without any issues.
A lot of the lawn mowers I have had in the past were very noisy, but that isn’t the case with this one.
There is a single-lever height adjustment feature on this mower which makes it fairly versatile and well-suited to different lengths of grass. The cutting height on this mower can be adjusted to anywhere from 1 3/8 to 3 3/8 inches (3.5cm to 8.6cm) with 5 different settings. The lever which is used to adjust the height of the cut is located on the top of the mower for convenience.
Those who have lawns with very tall grass or lots of weeds will find that this mower is definitely worth considering because of the wide range of height adjustments it offers. While it sometimes does have issues with very thick grassy areas, it is still able to move through fairly smoothly, provided the appropriate height adjustments are made beforehand.
I have mowed the lawn while the grass was still slightly wet without any problems and the mower even handles the small twigs from the trees in my garden.
This mower is designed for both mowing and mulching, which I found to be an especially useful feature. There is also the option of rear bagging if you want to go the more traditional route. Switching between the mulching, bagging, and discharge settings is quick and seamless.
I went back and forth between these three modes just to see how they worked and I was definitely not disappointed. The bag on this mower is able to hold quite a bit, 2.2 bushels to be exact. I didn’t have a problem with it filling up too quickly when I cut my medium-sized lawn. As far as mulching is concerned, the clippings are extremely fine and didn’t give me any trouble. Note that mulching works best if the grass is not too long.
- Numerous height adjustment options
- Easy to maneuver
- Problems handling dense areas of grass
