GreenWorks 25072 review
I have to start off by saying, this reel lawn mower is as easy to push as an electric or gas driven lawn mower. When the 20” reel has start spinning it almost works like a flywheel and makes it effortlessly to keep the mower moving forward.
I use about the same amount of time mowing my lawn with my new reel mower as I did with my older electric lawn mower. I don’t understand why I haven’t bought a reel lawn mower before. Now I don’t need to drag an electrical cord after me or ensure I don’t run over it.
Assembling the GreenWorks 25072 took me about 20 minutes and most of it I spent trying to find a wrench. When you have assembled the handle and fasten all the nuts with your wrench, you just need to snap the handle onto the mower and you are good to go or should I say mow.
The handle feels a bit cheapish, but it works great and allows you to either hold horizontally or vertically on a soft rubber grip.
The GreenWorks 25072 has four wheels which is quite uncommon for a push reel mower. The 10 inch front wheels and 6 inch rear wheels make the mower ride smoothly over most terrain. But I have noticed that if the lawn is too uneven the front wheels won’t get any traction and the reel will stop spinning. When this happens I either have to pull it back and try again which can be a bit annoying.
Even though it is quite large for a reel lawn mower it is surprisingly lightweight and maneuverable. I have no problems mowing around all the obstacles in my garden.
How it mows
The GreenWorks 25072 gives my lawn a nice and even cut. If the grass becomes too tall you will have to do multiple passes to manage to cut it. There is a risk of the reel getting jammed by the tall grass and weeds as well. If you mow your lawn each week during the summer you will not encounter any problems and the resistance when pushing the mower will be minimal.
One of the reasons I bought this lawn mower was due to the 20 inch cutting width. The mower “eats” a big chunk of my lawn on every pass even when I overlap a couple of inches. The first weekend I got the GreenWorks 25072 I even mowed my neighbor’s lawn to test it out. She has a bit larger lawn than me, believe it is about ½ acre, but I still managed to finish it off within an hour with time to spare for lemonade in the shade.
You can also adjust the cutting height from 1.74” to 2.75” by nine different positions. It is quite easy to change the cutting height, but I wish I could have been able to increase the cutting height to more than 2.75”
The most disappointing part with this GreenWorks 25072 is the grass catcher. It doesn’t even catch half of the clippings and it keeps falling off all the time. If you manage to keep the grass catcher on for a while it fills up too fast. I have now ended up not using the catcher at all.
- Easy to push and has an even cut.
- Minimal maintenance.
- Good value.
- Grass catcher doesn’t work very well.
- Doesn’t work too well on uneven terrain.
